Trade Alert!

New Jersey Devils receive Antti Niemi

Oakland Seals receive NJ 3rd rd pick in 2012

Analysis - The Devils have rolled the dice on the struggling Niemi, closing the deal before last night's shutout.  The Seals help alleviate the logjam in goal, now down to just 3 goalies on their roster, and ensure Luongo doesn't keep looking over his shoulder.

Trade Alert!

To Pens - Hanzel, Hornqvist

To Sens - Hemsky, Condra, M. Staal

Analysis - The Sens continue to sell nearing the deadline, picking up some more excellent pieces in return for two playoff performers.  Hemsky is a UHP bargain at at about half his $5M NHL salary, and that's no joke!

Trade Alert!

Seals acquire:
Roberto Luongo, Sean Couturier, Eric Johnson, Jannik Hansen and Radim Vrbata

Senators acquire:
Mikko Koivu, Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Wilson, Jussi Jokinen, Michael Grabner and the Pens' 2012 3rd round pick

Analysis - Blockbuster Deal!!!  Once again, the Oakland Seals have gone all in, giving up two 2010 Olympians in Koivu and Getzlaf, along with some solid young pieces in Wilson and Grabner, to secure the #1 NHL team's starting goalie...for now.  While the Sens secured some excellent starting pieces for next year, they also gave up some young talent in Couturier, Johnson and Hansen.  The key to this deal may be how long the Coyotes' run is in the playoffs, given that Vrbata is an impending UFA.

Trade Alert!

To Pens - Del Zotto, Stalberg, Colaiacovo, Condra

To Habs - Gagner, Goligoski, Dubinsky, McQuaid

Analysis:  Del Zotto's name has been thrown around a lot in relation to a potential Rick Nash deal, while Gagner has suddenly realized that he's a top 6 draft pick with some talent, and could also be on the move.  The Habs have acquired some major point production while Pittsburgh looks to be gearing up for the playoffs.
