UFA Round 5 Results: Final Roster Tweaks

Due to laziness within the UHP news staff, this news release comes out just under 24 hours past the last UFA signing deadline. Although not as busy, teams were looking to fill out their roster in anticipation of the season’s 1st game which begins tonight.

Grant Clitsome – The Oakland Seals look for depth as they ink Grant Clitsome to a 2 year, minimum salary contract (2 years, $500K/yr);

Lauri Korpikoski – New York Rangers sign Lauri Korpikoski to a 2 year contract.  Korpikoski will be fighting for a bottom 6 role, or will start the season on the farm (2 years, $1.5M/yr);

Mikhail Grabovski – After having his bell rung by Chris Neil late last week, Grabovski finally came to his senses and signed a contract with the New York Rangers. (1 year, $1M/yr);

Patrick O’SullivanNashville Predators also added some depth to their team by signing Patrick O’Sullivan to a 3 year deal (3 years, $900K/yr);

Matt D’Agostini – D’Agostini had a break out year last year with the Blues, and hope to keep his point production up as he signs on with the Oakland Seals (3 years, $600K/yr);

Andrei Markov – Hoping to get past his recent injuries, The New Jersey Devils are hoping he can return to the PP specialist he saw earlier in his career (1 year, $1.6M/yr);

Niklas BackstromThe New Jersey Devils ink the goaltender to a 1 year contract (1 year, $5M/yr);

Matt Read – Spending 4 years at Bemidji State University, and last year with the Adirondack Phantoms, Matt Read will be trying his luck with the big club, as the Pittsburgh Penguins come to terms with Read on a 3 year contract (3 years, $600K/yr);

With all rosters set, teams are advised to ensure that their opening rosters are set as the puck drops tonight.

Finally – as we say in the business… Let the Best Team Win!

Stamkos Press Release

“I'm happy that these are just rumours and am excited to be part of the Ottawa Senators' organization for years to come…”
After a crazy 24-hour span after news caught fire of the star forward being moved to basically every team in the UHP, Sens' brass are happy to report that all reports were based on rumours only.
We are committed to Steven and are looking forward to building the core around him. Fans were relieved, although many forums and sports radio shows were calling for Sens' owner to be fired immediately if this rumour turned out to be true.

A New Season Begins This Thursday

Welcome back everyone!  We truly appreciate your continued interest in our league, and hope that this year should be one of the most competitive yet.

We hope you enjoyed your off-season, because the long-winded breaks between meaningful games and regular season speculation is over.  It’s time to put your GM hats back on and let your players hit the ice.

As you are all aware, we have implemented a number of rule changes (both for the off-season and the regular season). The changes that affected the off-season dealt more with the way Unrestricted Free Agency proceeded. By all accounts, it appears to have been a success, as we feel that salaries are more representative of a competitive player’s market. That said, we would like to hear your thoughts on the UFA process. Was it a success? Was it better than last year?

We are currently in the process of posting the UHP Rulebook online on the UHP blog (http://uhp-info.blogspot.com/). We ask that you read the document in its entirety as we have included a number of changes for this season going forward. Although not significant, these changes may affect the way GMs manage their day to day activities. The main sections that have changed are the following:
  1. Change in salary cap and introduction of farm cap;
  2. Beginning on Thursday on a prospective basis, all buyout costs will be set at 50% (applied to signed players beginning Thursday and forward);
  3. UFA signing process to be used during the season (Note: This is not quite the same as used during the off-season);
  4. Revised point system (previously communicated);
  5. Additional roster spots (Farm and Prospects) – Previously communicated;
  6. Modified Waiver Section (allows additional flexibility during the season).  All waiver moves will be posted on the same ‘Waiver File’ which can now be accessed via the UHP Blog site (http://uhp-info.blogspot.com/);
  7. Modified IR section (impact on salary cap, and subsequent moves once IR period is over);
  8. Retirement section added (ie: 35 year old rule);

Finally – As you are well aware (since you are reading this on the new UHP Blog Site), all important posts (trades, signings, other significant items) will now be posted on this site, rather than numerous emails being sent out directly to your inbox. If you wish to receive daily/live updates, you can subscribe to the E-mail update on the site, or sign up to the RSS live feed.

Now drop the damn puck already!

Cheers – UHP Management
